Spa Talk with Amir Hussein

Meet Amir Hussein, CEO of Derme&Co.

How many years have you been involved in the spa/hospitality industry?

Twenty-four years, which has given me enough experience to help and guide our partners (clients) to improve their business. We offer business solutions as a support from experts in the field at no charge through our seminars.

What was the path that led you into the spa industry?

My wife and partner was a spa owner and operator with four locations. Her experience as a spa operator and owner ranged from managing all aspects of the spa to an aesthetician capable of conducting all services. The market was missing this type of business experience and education, so we created training and seminars, which are non-product related to improve the knowledge and result of the spa for the spa operator and the technicians.

What are the most challenging and rewarding parts of being in the spa industry?

The most difficult challenges are to see many new products coming into the market, to be overpromising, and not being able to deliver. The worst is to mislead your client, creating doubt in the market. The most rewarding aspect of being in the spa industry is to help a business to achieve their goals and more by offering support in many aspects such as extending payment terms, business, and market support, and on-site and local education relating to different aspects of the business.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

To be part of our clients’ success by motivating them to reach and move beyond their goals.

What has surprised you most about working in the spa industry?

How easily the spa market is influenced without seeing any proof of what they are purchasing.

Where do you think the industry is heading?

More than ever the market is changing quickly through the influence of the internet. We have to find a way to keep the identity of the spa.

What’s your favorite skincare ingredient?

Matrixyl 3000

What positions have you worked in that you feel have been most influential to your career?

Customer service has always been my favorite position in the company because I like feeling the need of the clients and improving the quality of service and support they receive.

If you could work in any other profession in the world, what would you be?

This industry has been very rewarding due to dealing with spa owners and estheticians who have become great friends over the years; I have never thought of working in any other industry.

How would you sum up your personal philosophy?

The success of any company is the success of the client. When your client is happy and successful, then so are you.

How do you like to spend your time away from work?

That is an easy one; I like experiencing spa services around the world and then bringing this experience to our clients.

What are your three greatest priorities in life?

My family, making sure our clients are completely satisfied with our company and products, and giving back to the environment by making sure our children have a healthy future.

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

To make sure the staff is always happy. A happy staff guarantees a company’s growth and success, which reflects to your clients.
