Spa Talk with Howard Kaminsky

How many years have you been involved in the spa/hospitality industry? 18 years

.

What was the path that led you into the spa industry? I attended a marketing conference on cosmetics. One of the speakers was Kathy Driscoll the former President of Cidesco who was talking about marketing to the spa channel. She inspired me.



What are the most challenging and rewarding parts of being in the spa industry? Rewarding: The people and the nice friendships I have made over the years. Challenges: Although I enjoy the time I spent with our spa partners, the time on the road can be a bit excessive at times.



What is your proudest accomplishment? Being the first cosmetic company in the world to launch products targeted to Rosacea and menopause, the Beyond Botox: 7 Strategies for Sexy, Ageless Skin Without Needles or Surgery book I coauthored with my father Ben Kaminsky

What has surprised you most about working in the spa industry? The growth of the industry

Where do you think the industry is heading? Women of all ages are more well informed on skincare treatment options than ever before thanks to social media and a vast amount of information available via the internet, they know they can help prevent the appearance of aging by utilizing quality products and are investing more than ever in results oriented treatments and at-home products.  



What’s your favorite skincare ingredient? Bio- Maple a natural ingredient derived from Maple trees which is rich in alpha and beta hydroxy acids, minerals, and antioxidants.



What positions have you worked in that you feel have been most influential to your career? In additional to my role with B.Kamins, I am also currently the president of a pharmaceutical company. All of the manufacturing of the B.Kamins products occur in the pharmaceutical facility, whose mandatory standards are much more stringent then cosmetic manufacturing standards. I have been very influential in incorporating these pharmaceutical standards and testing into our production of the B.Kamins, which is very unique for a cosmetics brand.



If you could work in any other profession in the world, what would you be? I‘ve always had a passion for health and wellness and if I was to choose to work in another profession, I would be a professional triathlete.



How would you sum up your personal philosophy? Always have passion with whatever you do and always be true to yourself and others.



How do you like to spend your time away from work? With my wife and kids and also, biking, running, and swimming.



What are your three greatest priorities in life? Family, work, and a healthy lifestyle

What’s the best advice you’ve received? Never give up and stay focused.
