Spa Talk with Kara Willingham

Meet Kara Willingham, relationship manager at FIT Bodywrap.

What was the path that led you into the spa industry?

As a little girl I was always fascinated with all things beauty. One of my first jobs was working at a beauty supply store. Once I began to learn about all of the magical hair and skincare products I was drawn to the hair salon where I stayed for a while because I learned a lot and loved the culture. A few years later, I landed my first position in the spa industry and then I decided to head over to the vendor side. The beauty, spa, and wellness industries are all very close to my heart.

What positions have you worked in that you feel have been most influential to your career?

Each position that I have held has been significant; I either learned what I wanted or what I didn’t want for my career and that knowledge is invaluable. My passion for the spa and beauty industries has absolutely influenced my career choices.

What about your new position excites you most?

Working with the FIT Bodywrap team has been a great experience thus far. I have recently taken over content creation for the company, including blogging, which is something I’ve always been interested in. It’s very exciting to work for a wellness company that wants to improve the lives of others.

How do you like to spend your time away from work?

I enjoy practicing yoga, cooking, and spending time with my family and friends.

What’s your go-to spa treatment?

That’s a tough question. I do spend my time off enjoying spa days when I can because it is like market research. If I had to choose I’d say a massage and Mani/Pedi combo sounds dreamy.

Which brands are your go-to favorites?

For skincare I keep coming back to Epicuren, although I have tested the waters with other lines over the years. Because I come from a hair and beauty industry background, I’d also say that Bumble and bumble is at the top of my list.

What’s your favorite skincare ingredient?

My favorite skincare ingredient is coconut oil. It has SO many uses and it is wonderfully effective and natural. You can use coconut oil for your skin, hair, cooking, or giving a massage (warm oil scalp massage, yes please!). I have tons of coconut products that I use weekly and they smell great too.
