Spa Talk with Lenette M. Casper

What are the most challenging and rewarding parts of being in the spa industry?

The most rewarding part of being in the spa industry is helping others feel better. Being a part of an industry with the attitude of taking care of oneself and promoting a healthy lifestyle is fantastic. I have seen so many people’s lives impacted in such a positive way in the spa, and it’s really rewarding. The challenging part is that sometimes it becomes difficult to practice what you preach. We get so busy taking care of everyone that we forget to do the same thing for ourselves.

Where do you think the industry is heading?

There have been two opposite, growing trends in the industry in terms of products and approach—one side trending more and more natural and the other trending more and more toward aggressive medical products and procedures. In the middle, there has been a growing emergence of wellness, combining and recognizing the benefits of both worlds; to promote health with a holistic, natural, preventative approach while utilizing the latest science and technology.

What’s your go-to spa treatment?

Nothing beats a remineralizing body wrap with a scalp massage, followed by a full-body massage. That makes me feel so relaxed and rejuvenated yet at the same time energized and ready to go. Plus, it leaves the skin soft and moisturized.

What’s your favorite skincare ingredient?

XMF, which stands for Extra Marine Filler, which is an exo-polysaccharide, also called a marine sugar. It is a high-tech, 100 percent natural ingredient obtained through marine biotechnology and has unprecedented results for reducing wrinkles and smoothing the skin.

Tell us two things about yourself we don’t know.

I love fast cars and driving fast. Perhaps it comes from my fiery redheaded grandmother who was a race car driver.

If you could work in any other profession in the world, what would you be?

Science, space, and the universe fascinate me. In another life, maybe I would be an astrophysicist.

How do you like to spend your time away from work?

I love the outdoors. Just being outside energizes me. I love hiking, biking, walking, climbing, boating, and really anything outside. Even sitting on my patio, enjoying the trees, and nature brings me instant peace and happiness.
