Remington Hotel Corp., a Dallas-based hotel management company, revealed plans for a $24 million conversion of the Sea Turtle Inn in Atlantic Beach into a luxury resort hotel and spa called One Ocean.
The 193-room Sea Turtle, built in 1973, will remain open throughout the conversion.
Expected to open in January, One Ocean would be the first to open under Remington's The Gallery luxury hotel collection.
Remington took over management of the Sea Turtle in 2004, soon after its parent company, Ashford Hospitality Trust Inc., bought the oceanfront property. Ashford, a publicly traded real estate investment trust, bought the Sea Turtle for $23.05 million, according to county property records. Ashford typically buys distressed hotel properties and renovates them, according to Hoover's Inc., an independent market analysis firm.
Atlantic Beach's first high-rise hotel, the Sea Turtle has been undergoing renovations for months. Plans include a complete overhaul of hotel rooms, restaurant, front desk, pool and spa, according to a news release issued on Wednesday.
'We want to put Atlantic Beach on the map, which will only add to the economic development of this wonderful community and the creation of new jobs,' One Ocean Managing Director Sileshi Mengiste said in the release.
The hotel now employs 100 people; once the conversion is complete, the resort will employ more than 240, said Lauren Garvey, a spokeswoman for One Ocean.
Also, One Ocean will include a world-class spa featuring oceanfront treatment rooms, marking a first for Remington. According to Lorraine Park, Vice President of Spas for Remington, 徹ur newly designed 4,000 square foot spa and fitness center will provide guests with a personalized and memorable experience. 羨lways in Your Element the mantra for One Ocean and spa is our focal point for both the d馗or and treatments found at the resort.
The spa will feature a Vichy room that will provide salt scrubs, sea weed wraps, signature ocean and sea turtle inspired treatments and more. Our spaç—´ Oceanic theme will allow our guests to truly experience the natural surroundings of One Ocean, noted Park. Also, a spa suite will be available with a steam shower, so guests can relax while enjoying views of the ocean--perfect for either business travelers, a honeymoon couple, or mother and daughter spending the day together.
Additionally, a water fall in the waiting lounge that flows from the ceiling representing the elixir of life, as well as a signature treatment that will incorporate the ocean, moon and sun will be offered, proceeds from our signature treatment(s) will be donated to a foundation benefiting the protection of the Sea Turtles.
Other amenities at One Ocean will include a signature gallery, where work from local photographers will be displayed; docents, who will act as personal concierges for guests; a fitness center; gourmet dining; kids club; and 9,700 square feet of meeting space.
