Charles Yarish, Ph.D., of the department of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Connecticut, has joined Repêchage’s board of directors to serve as a consultant for 2015. He will help in the evaluation and sourcing of sustainable wild harvested seaweeds for cosmetic and agricultural uses. Yarnish come to Repêchage with an extensive background in marine sciences. He received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University in 1976 and has been an adjunct professor of marine sciences at the Stony Brook University (New York). He was also a visiting scientist at the Biologische Anstalt Helgoland (Germany); visiting professor of marine biology at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands); and most recently, guest professor at Shanghai Fisheries University (China). At the University of Connecticut, he developed an internationally known laboratory for seaweed research and has been a leader in seaweed aquaculture. Yarish has also published and edited several books, including the Long Island Sound: Prospects for the Urban Sea (Springer, 2014).
