Santuario LeDomaine Wellness & Spa Announces New Spa Manager

Cátia Fonseca, spa manager of Santuario LeDomaine Wellness & Spa at Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine (Sardón de Duero, Spain)This month, Santuario LeDomaine Wellness & Spa at Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine (Sardón de Duero, Spain) hired Cátia Fonseca as spa manager. Fonseca comes to the wellness spa in Spain’s Duero winegrowing region with industry knowledge and world-class skills developed from her previous executive positions at internationally recognized spas and spa hotels, including Aquapura Hotel Resort & Spa (Lamego, Portugal) and Porto Palácio Congress Hotel & Spa (Oporto, Portugal). She also held management positions at Six Senses Spa at Sharq Village & Spa (Doha, Qatar) and Six Senses Douro Valley (Samodães, Portugal). “We have juxtaposed an historic, 12th-century abbey hotel and winery with a 21st century wellness center to create an unprecedented guest experience in Spain, and Cátia now adds a wealth of international experience from leading spas,” says Andrés Araya, managing director of Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine. Santuario LeDomaine Wellness & Spa opened last July and offersfour individual treatment rooms, a Spa Suite, outdoor rain showers, an indoor heated pool, an outdoor pool with a snack menu, and separate ladies and men’s wellness areas complete with a sauna, steam baths, experience showers, hydrotherapy pools, a relaxation room, and changing areas.

In her role as spa manager, Fonseca will be responsible for nurturing an innovative sanctuary of holistic healing and wellness, which features a vinotherapy spa concept based on a blind tasting, a signature treatment menu, and Europe’s first Spa Sommeliers who guide guests on his or her wellness journey. The role of the Spa Sommelier involves a highly specialized professional who delivers an unprecedented level of guest service and customization, including designing appropriate spa experiences to target guests’ physical and spiritual needs during their wellness journey. The Spa Sommelier will also conduct a blind tasting of oils to smell and wines to taste depending on the guests’ palette and aroma preferences. For guests who do not drink alcohol, the wines are replaced with seasonal teas and juices.
