Though most cocktails have little to no health boost, some of their ingredients can be surprisingly beneficial to wellbeing. In celebration of National Margarita Day, we gathered a few spa treatments that incorporate key ingredients in margaritas—salt, lime, tequila, and agave—to encourage a healthier alternative to drinking away this holiday. Spa-goers' livers and head-ache-free selves will thank you!
At Salt Spa Walnut Creek (CA), Salt Therapy ($45 adults, $25 children 14 and under, 45 minutes) infuses health all around. Here, a thick layer of salt crystals lines the walls and the floor like sand. The halogenerator produces particles of high-grade sodium chloride in the air. It has been designed to replicate one of Eastern Europe’s salt caves, which are known to provide long-term relief for numerous respiratory conditions like asthma, and skin problems. It also boosts the immune system.
At The Spa at Esperanza, An Auberge Resort (Mexico), Margarita Medley ($165, 60 minutes) includes a relaxing foot soak while sipping a delicious “spagarita,” followed by foot and hand scrub with massage and hydrating wrap with Baja Lime moisturizer, and finished with a head and neck massage and rejuvenating lime facial compress. For a more extravagant Margarita Day option, spa-goers can experience the Tequila Casamigos Ultimate Indulgence incorporates a sea salt and lime body exfoliation followed by cooling, rehydrating aloe vera and honey mint body mask. While wrapped up in a tequila agave cocoon, a fresh cantaloupe and cucumber juice facial is applied. The experience finishes with an agave oil full body massage that promises a head-to-toe glow that lasts and a refreshing cocktail of white tequila, grapefruit, and lime juice to bolster your spirits and energy.
Hacienda Spa at Hacienda Beach Club & Residences (Mexico) offers the Tequila and Sage Massage ($175, 80 minutes), which combines ingredients like coconut, juniper, tequila, and sage to soothe sensitive sunburnt skin. Agave, the main ingredient in tequila has calming properties.
The Spa at Turf Valley (Ellicott City, MD) features Sweet Orange and Citrus Pick-Me-Up ($100), a body treatment that includes raw sugars mixed with fresh-squeezed citrus blends that reinvigorate. Citrus is rich in antioxidants, which helps with detoxification and healing purposes.
