Spa Sommeliers Pair Pampering with Wine

This summer, Santuario Wellness & Spa opened to complement the Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine (Valladolid) located in the Spanish wine-growing region on a property that boasts a 900-year history. Here, classical treatments and services, including massages, body scrubs, body wraps, facials, and grooming are blended with authentic, indigenous rituals based on the wine traditions of the area and Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine’s award-winning winery. One of the highlights for spa-goers and oenophiles alike are sessions with a spa sommelier. A visit starts out with blind wine tastings and then a treatment based upon the client's preferences. The experience infuses the best of the local region and also brings in traditional Chinese medicine's five elements theory, which connects taste to specific organs and tissues in the body. The essence of the wines matches the oils used in treatments to help spa-goers get in sync according to spa director, Sonal Uberoi. Also in the works are juice and oil pairings and hot tea and oil pairings for teetotalers. For everyone else, a whole bottle of the preferred wine awaits after the service. Spa-goers are sure to say 'cheers' to this wine-country retreat.
