SPATRADE POLL REVEALS TOP MANAGEMENT ISSUES

The SpaTrade poll asking "What spa management issue is your top priority" reveals that "Maximizing occupancy in off-peak hours" is the most important issue facing spa managers. More than one quarter of voters consider filling treatment rooms during slow periods to be the most serious issue facing the spa industry. Revenue management (or yield management)—a practice where discounts and incentives are offered during slow hours—is one solution to this problem. An example is Spa Gregories' "Last Minute Charlie" program. The Newport Beach Spa sends out emails to its client base featuring deep discounts for off-peak hours.

Finding qualified employees was a close second with 22% of the vote. Interestingly, finding employees was twice as important as retaining employees. 'Controlling cost per treatment' was close behind attracting employees, with 18% of the vote. "Increasing Retail Sales" received 14% of the vote. Lowest on the priority was technology, with "Leveraging the Internet" receiving 6% of the vote and Integrating Software and reservation systems" receiving 5%.
