Today is World Oceans Day, a day set aside to bring attention to underwater preservation efforts and the unique habitats in the deep blue sea. Google is marking the occasion with highlights of some of the subaqueous photography collected as part of the Street View program. The stunning brand new images (including this humpback whale spotted near the Cook Islands) show the underwater worlds in the Bahamas, Cook Islands, Great Barrier Reef, and more. "Mapping the ocean is key to preserving it," says Jenifer Austin of the Google Ocean Program. "Each image in Google Maps is a GPS-located digital record of these underwater and coastal environments, which can be used as a baseline to monitor change over time. This comprehensive record of coral reefs showcases the beauty of these ecosystems and highlights the threats they face." These ecosystems are not only beautiful, they are the source of many effective skincare ingredients for beautifying clients and helping them defy the signs of aging.
