Marathon Specials Give Runners Another Reason to Celebrate

Although it has been several years since I ran the ING New York City Marathon, I can't help but think that I'll some day run another. The experience was such a positive one that I'd love to repeat it. Needless to say, there were many highlights, the main one being when I crossed the finish line in tandem with one of my best friends. One highlight I would have liked to have included is a spa treatment for my overworked body. Fortunately, many spas are now offering treatments to coincide with marathon day. The staff at Exhale Mind Body Spa at Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows (Santa Monica, CA) is hoping LA Marathon runners will take advantage of their Finish Line Pedicure (30 minutes), which is available for just $26 on marathon Sunday. Available only to marathon runners who can show their bibs at check-in, the pedicure is the perfect treat for tired feet.  On the East Coast, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Boston is offering both runners and those rooting for them the Oriental Essence massage ($178 on weekdays, $190 on weekends, 60 minutes) and Runners Revive massage ($138 on weekdays, $150 on weekends, 50 minutes). Available April 1 through April 30, 2012, the special is meant to coincide with the upcoming Boston Marathon on April 16. The Oriental Essence treatment is ideal for energizing guests before they hit the pavement, while the Runners Revive massage is perfect for revitalizing the body and flushing lactic acid from sore legs. All of these specials would have been much appreciated on my race day and infinitely healthier than the post-marathon party I chose to attend.
