I’m starting to suspect that spas, not a card company, were in cahoots with St. Valentine in dreaming up Valentine’s Day based on the sheer number of February specials. Given the volume of couples’ massages, soaks, and more, it takes a bit more creativity to stand out and entice spa-goers during the season of love. A menu filled with sweet treats is a decadent way to bring in couples for quality time. Here are a few sugary treatments sure to satiate sweet tooths.
The Pomegranate Body Gelato (starting at $140) at The Spa at Pelican Hill (Newport Beach, CA) is a sweet way to refresh this winter. Available December through February, this seasonal body treatment combines fresh pomegranate and pure botanicals for a scrub and moisturizing wrap, completed with a pomegranate gelato treat.
Another naturally sweet option is available at Blue Harmony Spa at Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach (FL). Honey For Your Honey ($150, 50 minutes; $200, 80 minutes) is a luxurious honey-based body polish that leaves skin feeling beautiful and rejuvenated, followed by an exquisite collection of four different aromatic nectars drizzled along the spinal column as a prelude to an iconic Swedish massage performed with amaranth oil.
Honey is a popular pet name and a popular treatment ingredient as it also makes an appearance in the Honey Honey February Retreat (starting at $128, 80 minutes) at Hiatus Spa & Retreat (multiple locations in Texas). It begins with a head to toe drizzle of warm local honey infused with essences of honeysuckle and neroli. Guests are then sprinkled with an exfoliating medley of honeysuckle flowers and organic brown sugar to buff away dead skin. Fragrant steam rehydrates and softens, followed by a cleansing rain of the Vichy shower. This sweet treatment ends with a honey liqueur cocktail.
At The Spa at Rancho Bernardo Inn (San Diego, CA), the Valentine’s Day menu is full of all things sweet with dessert-inspired spa treatments. The Cupid's Cupcake Pedi by FarmHouse Fresh ($60, 50 minutes) features a coconut and sweet almond oil soak, sweet cream salt scrub, and white velvet shea butter application.
If lovers prefer their sweets the old-fashioned way—candy, cupcakes, chocolates, and more—they may be in need of a detox wrap or juice cleanse to revive. But if more is more, stay tuned for the most over-the-top luxurious ways spas are pampering couples and chocolate covered treatments.
