Yoga with a Twist

Thanks to September’s National Yoga Month festivities I’ve had ample opportunities to practice yoga in unique spots around the city (like on cobblestones). This week I attended Solerno’s #DrinkPlayLove alfresco yoga class taught by an Exhale Spa (multiple locations) instructor atop the Dream Hotel Midtown (New York City). The rooftop location heightened the yoga experience in more ways than one. My fellow yogis and I were treated to a brilliant orange sunset and a surprisingly soothing and rhythmic mix of the city sounds as we flowed through poses. I’ve never felt such peace and serenity in Midtown Manhattan and nor as in tune with my breath and body. It was hard to utter the final ‘om’ to close the class, but a selection of fresh cocktails from Solerno, an Italian blood orange liqueur, eased the transition back to the evening activities. Here’s a spa-friendly cocktail recipe worth trying with or without yoga:

Blood Orange Cosmopolitan Ingredients:

  • 1 part Solerno
  • 1 part fresh beet juice
  • 1 part fresh carrot juice
  • 1 part fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 part fresh lemon juice

Steps:

  • Roll ingredients with ice in a shaker and strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass.
  • Garnish with fruit of your choice.
