Inside West Palm's New Wellness Hub

Traditional retail therapy is being replaced in West Palm Beach, FL, with more relaxing pursuits, thanks to the debut of an innovative experience-driven wellness destination. The city is now home to Culture Lab, which has transformed a former Macy’s into a public experiential wellness center with meditation corners, vibration rooms, and soothing sound art.

With a nod to its previous life as an iconic flagship store, the wellness destination utilizes kiosks, cash registers, and dressing rooms to set the stage for evolving retail and wellness verticals. For example, the former luggage section now serves as a blue-light meditative space, which hosts weekly yoga and meditation classes. Nearby is a vibrating meditation center with floor seating featuring a sound installation known to promote restorative meditation.

In addition, the former jewelry sales section now houses a Hammock Carousel. The wellness hub will also feature District Fit, a two-day fitness festival in the spring and fall, featuring a full lineup of wellness programming and more than 25 pop-up retail experiences; Wellness Wednesdays, a series of wellness classes, such as Body Combat, Zumba, and a charity-driven yoga class called Pose for a Purpose; and Wellness Month, which takes place in October with wellness-focused services to rejuvenate the mind, body, and soul.

“West Palm Beach is positioned to provide all the great amenities of urban living with access to incredible fitness activities,” says Gopal Rajegowda, senior vice president for Related Companies, which developed the project. “Culture Lab is one of the first of many new initiatives that are free and open to the public, focusing on health and wellness while bringing together the local community.
