California Family Fitness (CFF), Orangevale, CA, acquired two clubs from Wenmat Fitness, Sacramento, CA, the company announced last Friday. Terms were not disclosed.
The two clubs, which were known as Alhambra Athletic Club and Riverside Athletic Club, reopened under CFF ownership on Saturday and will be renamed CFF Midtown Club on Alhambra Boulevard and CFF Greenhaven Club on Valine Court, respectively.
"California Family Fitness is excited to expand our footprint and serve a new member base in the heart of Sacramento," Randy Karr, California Family Fitness president, said in a statement. "We are committed to providing our members with state-of-the-art equipment, popular programs and activities in a convenient, clean, fun and friendly environment."
Current members of the other Wenmat Fitness locations will continue their membership without interruption, the company said.
CFF also announced late last month the opening of its new 32,000-square-foot downtown Sacramento club on K Street, which replaced the company's J Street location. CFF now has a total of 18 clubs.
Last year, California Family Fitness founders Larry Gury and Russ Kuhn sold almost $100 million worth of their real estate portfolio with the intent to use the money from the sale to build more clubs. In 2006, Gury and Kuhn, who founded CFF in 1994, sold the company to Bunker Hill Capital LP for a reported $85 million but maintained ownership of the buildings that housed the CFF gyms.
