Executives from the fitness industry, including Active Wellness CEO Bill McBride, Volt Athletics CEO Dan Giuliani, iFit President Mark Watterson and Calibrate Founder and CEO Isabelle Kenyon, were named by the Healthcare Technology Report to its list of top 25 consumer health tech executives of 2020.
The list also includes Fitbit CEO James Parks.
The Healthcare Technology Report, New York, provides market research and insights, business news, investment activity updates and important corporate developments related to the healthcare technology sector.
McBride “steered his company into a partnership with St. Joseph Health, a non-profit healthcare system serving 3.7 million people annually, with Active Wellness maintaining a majority interest in the partnership,” according to a summary of McBride’s achievements. Active Wellness designed 150 commercial fitness centers, community centers, medical fitness centers and corporate fitness centers.
As co-founder and CEO of technology company Volt Athletics, Giuliani led the company in its use of artificial intelligence to personalize workout plans for more than one million coaches, athletes and exercisers in 150 countries. Volt Athletics, which is based in Seattle, has been on the Inc. 5000 list for three consecutive years.
Watterson guided iFit, which is owned by ICON Health & Fitness, through the COVID-19 pandemic, During that time, the company, which offers proprietary streaming technology that brings fitness activities to homes and gyms on iFit-enabled equipment, grew its paid subscriber base 115 percent since the end of November 2019. In addition, the company rolled out its iFit Coach in a partnership with Planet Fitness.
Kenyon’s company is trying to change the way the world treats weight loss, according to her profile. Calibrate offers a one-year digital program that uses a web portal, a person’s mobile phone and an app to connect obese people with specialists and coaches who can help them while also tracking their health goal progress.
Hundreds of nominees were evaluated based on their career track record, reputation among peers and colleagues, experience in the industry, and company achievements, among other factors. The final list of recipients are industry leaders that provide effective, secure and accessible products for individuals to better treat illness and manage their health, according to the announcement. The awardees have excelled in their field not only through deep expertise and determination but through the power of imagination and testing the limits of what is possible with technology, the company said.
