Three years ago, Rodney Steven and his Wichita, KS-based Genesis Health Clubs acquired two Maximus Fitness and Wellness clubs in the state of Kansas. Last week, after several years of negotiations, Genesis acquired the three remaining Maximus clubs in Topeka, KS.
The acquisition now brings the total of Genesis Health Clubs to 18—15 in Kansas and three in Missouri.
Remodel plans are under way for the three former Maximus clubs in Topeka. Rebranding of the signage at the three clubs has not yet begun, but staff members are wearing Genesis uniforms, Steven tells Club Industry. Some staff members from other Genesis locations have relocated as the company is training current staff "to stay on board for a change as they had good leadership."
"I've been anticipating moving into the Topeka market for a long time, and excited to bring the Genesis brand to the community," Steven said in a statement released last week. "I am proud to announce that the sale is official, and the high quality of service and programs that have been a part of Maximus will continue and will thrive to a new level."
In May, Genesis acquired two former Ozark Fitness Centers in Springfield, MO. Future expansion of the company this year remains a possibility, Steven tells Club Industry.
