Reimagining the Spa Locker Room Experience

Maggy Dunphy, consultant for Blu Spas and founder of Spa-Oz Solutions, discusses why some spas are opting to reimagine the locker room experience to enhance clients' overall experience.

When designing and curating experiences for spas with a smaller footprint, creating private changing rooms with a shower and a sink vanity is the perfect solution. We are basically deconstructing the locker room into its key elements to provide a more private experience while giving space back to the spa for amenities. These small pods are not gender-specific. Instead, the pods create a space that is inclusive to the diverse community of spa guests coming to experience the spa.

This locker room layout is designed to be open, inviting, and inclusive. The residential approach to amenities and changing spaces gives two distinct advantages: providing gender neutral spaces for communal relaxation as well as personalized luxury in private changing spaces that include an armoire-style locker, and individual shower, sink, and vanity…and feature high-end product that is not normally displayed in a typical locker room.

The millwork is designed to store replacement linens between each usage – to keep operations efficient throughout the day. Each private changing room is adjacent to a bay of lockers and a restroom. Before and after services, the guest can pick any of the changing rooms, as their items are placed in a locker outside the private changing room – accessible throughout their stay.

What I say, it’s like visiting your best friend who has created a personal bathroom just for you!
