Spa Design Trend: Loggias

Cary Collier, principal for Blu Spas, discusses the benefits of adding a loggia to a spa's design:

Forget the architectural definition, loggias come in all shapes and sizes, as a roofed room or gallery with one or more sides open (or closable, pending weather), and are an extension or a leisure space between spaces of a building. While Kim (Collier) and I were living in Bali, it became a happy thought...loggias are perfect for spas. Why? Especially now that humans are finally embracing nature, loggias are great connectors between indoor and outdoor spaces or savored solely as outdoor spaces. They are comfortable year-around (by design), provide an interior and exterior landscape, are garden-friendly, can include a fireplace or fire pit, offer natural light and fresh air, provide a great place for social or private gathering, can house spa experiences or entertainment, and they meet imaginative planning for a “sensory sanctuary” and a high standard for sustainable design.
