Fitness International, which owns LA Fitness, filed a lawsuit against real estate development company Related Companies over a planned Equinox location and an outdoor SoulCycle pop-up location in an office complex owned by the Related Companies, according to media reports.
The suit, which was filed in April in Palm Beach County Circuit Court, alleges that since November, the Related Companies has allowed the SoulCycle pop-up to operate in The Square, an office complex in West Palm Beach, Florida, and is planning to include an Equinox location in one of two office towers to be added to The Square. Fitness International alleges the Related Companies is violating Fitness International’s lease agreement, which Fitness International said guarantees it exclusive rights to any fitness location at The Square.
Some of the owners of the Related Companies also own Equinox and SoulCycle. They purchased Equinox in 2006.
Club Industry reached out to Equinox for comment and has not heard back.
