VillaSport Athletic Club and Spa, San Rafael, California, has acquired Axiom Fitness, a four-club fitness chain in Boise, Idaho, VillaSport announced on April 4. The acquisition price was not disclosed.
The addition of Axiom Fitness is the start of an “aggressive growth plan” for VillaSport, according to Joe Syufy, CEO of VillaSport. VillaSport, which had seven clubs prior to the acquisition, plans to add clubs through acquisition and green field development in the greater Boise area and in its existing markets, which include Beaverton, Oregon; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Katy, Cypress and The Woodland, Texas; and San Jose and Roseville, California.
Axiom Fitness, which was once part of the Gold’s Gym brand, is a smaller footprint model than VillaSport’s resort-style athletic clubs, but the mid-sized Axiom Fitness model allows more accessibility in current and new markets. The Axiom purchase is part of VillaSport’s plan to create a mixed portfolio of large and mid-size clubs, according to Syufy. Select Axiom locations feature recreational facilities such as racquetball courts, basketball courts and swimming pools.
“This acquisition complements our plan to build full-size VillaSport clubs in Treasure Valley and broaden our offerings and services,” said Billy Malkovich, president of VillaSport.
