According to a recent survey by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), rhinoplasty has been experiencing a resurgence in the last few years and once again was the most popular facial plastic surgery procedure in 2012. “Your nose is one of the first things people see when they look at your face, and it is very important to overall facial balance,” says Robert M. Kellman, M.D., president of the AAFPRS. “A well-done rhinoplasty can subtly enhance your features and restore facial harmony.” Each year 500,000 people consult with a surgeon about enhancing the appearance of their nose often complaining it is too long or too big, crooked, asymmetrical, or thick-tipped. Patients, both men and women, may seek a rhinoplasty to change their natural shape, repair an injury or previous procedure, or improve their breathing. The most coveted noses include those of Pierce Brosnan, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, and Brad Pitt for men and Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Kate Middleton, and Natalie Portman for women. The procedure general spans one to three hours in surgery and comes with a week to two-week recovery time.
