Tips for Helping Manicures Last Longer This Summer

Help clients keep their nails healthy and their manicures lasting longer with these suggestions from our experts.

“Exposure to the ocean or chlorinated pools can compromise a manicure’s shine and dry out nails and cuticles. Applying a layer of base coat followed by a top coat before a day of fun in the sun can revitalize the shine and extend the life of a manicure. Fingernails and toenails tend to grow faster during the warmer weather. Keeping nails filed down reduces the chances of snagging or breaking nails.”—Silva Nahabedian, director of education, Dazzle Dry

“Cuticle oil is a great retail item and also a great self-care treatment for clients to keep their manicures in tip-top shape. When clients use cuticle oil on a regular basis, it will also shorten the prep time during their next appointment. It’s important for clients to use cuticle oil at least once a day or after they wash their hands and massage it in around the cuticle area to promote blood flow and growth. This will keep nails from getting brittle and breaking.”—Sigourney Nunuez, education manager, OPI

“There are several great nail strengtheners out there that can help your clients maintain strong healthy nails.”—Vu Nguyen, artist, Gelish
