Jeremy McCarthy, director of spa and wellness for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, will be receiving the ISPA Visionary Award at the ISPA Conference and Expo later this year. Each year, the International Spa Association (ISPA) presents the ISPA Visionary Award to an individual that has been committed to the health and wellness industry. At the 2019 event, taking place Sept. 11-13, McCarthy will be awarded for his 25 years of experience. The event will be located at The Venetian in Las Vegas.
In his role, McCarthy guides wellness programs for both guests and colleagues. In addition to serving guests, his position has led to wellness innovation within the Mandarin Oriental group. In 2016, he collaborated with the company to launch a Digital Wellness initiative. The program addresses the way technology interacts with its guests’ wellbeing and offers solutions to problems of the digital age, like learning how to use wellness to alleviate the stress that sometimes comes from the outside world. He also serves as chair of the Digital Wellness Initiative for the Global Wellness Institute.
“Jeremy’s forward-thinking approach to spa leadership has inspired countless industry professionals throughout his career,” says ISPA president Lynne McNees. “We are thrilled to recognize his commitment to the industry and look forward to the continued passion he brings to the spa world.”
Previously, McCarthy served on the ISPA Board of Directors as vice chairman. He partook in creating multiple ISPA textbooks, in addition to his own blog about holistic wellbeing and his book, The Psychology of Spas & Wellbeing.
“For me, the spa industry is and always has been about taking care of other people," says McCarthy. "This is the true essence of hospitality. I couldn’t be more honored, humbled, and excited to receive this recognition from ISPA, an organization that has been by my side through many chapters of my career.”
