South African-based Africology Products Now Available In the United States

Eco-friendly luxury skin and body care line captures healing essence of Africa

Columbia, Mo. (February 20, 2013) American skin care lovers can now experience the ancient wisdom of Africa. Africology, the leading luxury skin care line in South Africa, is now available online to select spas and retail outlets in the United States.  The eco-friendly products are blended with pure essential oils and indigenous medicinal herbs—free of parabens, petroleum and artificial fragrance. Africology products are found in more than 300 luxury spas in South Africa and select resorts worldwide, including Four Seasons, Intercontinental, Shanti Ananda, Mauritus and Marley Resort & Spa.

Established in South Africa in 2000, Africology was founded by Renchia Droganis, a metaphysical healer and Reiki Master. After researching indigenous ingredients, plant extracts and aromatherapy, she started creating treatments for her clients. Her next step was to find a way to generate jobs for underprivileged South Africans. Enter Africology—today the largest provider of natural skin and body care in South Africa.

“Africology means ‘the study of Africa,’ says Derya Yar Atterberry, President of Africology USA. “The line is steeped in the history of ancient healing practices. Our product formulations feature organically grown ingredients—many directly from Africology’s farm in Knysna.  Our spa treatments are inspired by the wisdom of Africa’s traditional healers and celebrate Africa’s vibrant heritage and plant life.”

To maintain a truly authentic African offering, Africology retains leading anthropologist Petra Terblanche to consult on indigenous healing modalities, ingredients and rituals. Key ingredients are South Africa’s indigenous healing plants, including rooibos, aloe ferox, marula and African potato. Africology prides itself on being a company that does not put profit above humanity. Committed to fair-trade, the Company respects the earth and supports local communities.

Africology is the winner of the 2012 Les Nouvelles Esthetiques South Africa Humanitarian Award in 2007 and Visionary Award in 2012. The Company spearheads several community-based projects, including The Ngrove Water Project which helps villages access water. “Spas are privileged enough to have almost unlimited running water, it is only fair to give back to communities who have to walk many miles to collect only as much as they can carry,” says Droganis.

Africology has developed a cult following with international travelers who previously could not purchase the products in America.  The Company is currently seeking select spa, resort and retail partners for wholesale opportunities.
