The Spa Community Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), and every year, charities raise funds for research so we’re one step closer in finding a cure, the cause of, how to prevent, and how to accurately treat breast cancer. According to the non-profit Breastcancer.org, about one in eight women will develop breast cancer at some point in her lifetime, and about 40,610 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2017 from breast cancer alone. Genetics, age, and just being a woman are factors that can lead to breast cancer, but those who smoke and live unhealthy lifestyles are at a higher risk of developing it, too.

On the bright side, breast cancer has been on a slow decline. Breastcancer.org reports that the rates for breast cancer incidences have been decreasing since 2000, and from 2002 to 2003 it decreased 7 percent alone. Researchers believe it was caused by the reduced usage of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) after a study was published by Women’s Health Initiative that proposed a link between the two.

In efforts to eradicate breast cancer completely, the spa community is giving back by donating a portion of its funds, adding treatments to menus for breast cancer patients, creating gift boxes, and much more. Here are a few in the community that are joining the fight for a cure:

CV SkinlabsCV Skinlabs is supporting the breast cancer awareness campaign this month with the CV Skinlabs Mind Body + Spirit Box.
