The Spa Mart and American Spa have joined forces to create two scholarships for the Women in Wellness Leadership Conferences in 2019. The scholarships, worth more than $2,500, will each include airfare to the conference, two nights’ hotel accommodations, a pass to the day-long event, and $1,000 to be used toward education.
The idea for the scholarship came about after the first edition of American Spa’s Women in Wellness Leadership Conference, which took place in New York City in March. Teddy Lester, co-founder of The Spa Mart and a sponsor of the debut event, and Julie Keller Callaghan, founder of the Women in Wellness Conferences and the editor-in-chief and publisher of American Spa, had a meeting to discuss ways they could work to further the cause of female empowerment and education. Thus, the idea for the scholarship was born.

There will be one scholarship awarded for each event. Applicants must submit an essay and bio here. The deadline for scholarship submission is Nov. 1, 2018, and winners must be U.S.-based. The winners will be selected by the editors of American Spa and will be notified by Dec. 1, 2018.
The second-annual Women in Wellness Leadership Conference will take place March 12, 2019, in New York City, followed by a West Coast debut in October 2019. The conferences will be designed for women in the wellness industry looking to develop their professional and personal leadership skills while networking with their peers. They will feature speakers who will address a variety of business topics, delving deeper into some themes addressed at the inaugural conference as well as even more targeted leadership, entrepreneurship, and business tracks.
Tickets to each event are $400 per person (prices increase after Dec. 31 for the New York event and after June 30, 2019, for the West Coast event). Both conferences will follow a format that includes keynote speakers, breakout sessions, a networking lunch, and an end-of-day cocktail party with fun activities like a photo booth, mini spa treatments and experiences, and more. Attendees will also receive a gift bag with more than $300 worth of goodies, local hotel and spa discounts, and passes to IECSC New York for the March event ($60 value). Post-event, attendees will have access to a private American Spa Institute eLearning course with videos, presentations, and more from the day.
