NEW YORK—Jewish teen athletes from Israel, Mexico, Argentina, Great Britain, Poland and Venezuela will compete against 5,000 U.S. and Canadian teens in the 2006 Maccabi Games next month. The Olympic-style games, which have involved 100,000 Jewish teens since 1982, will take place in three host cities: Aug. 6-11 in Phoenix; Aug. 13 to 18 in Vancouver, BC; and Aug. 13-18 in Stamford, CT. The athletes can compete in one of 14 sporting events and learn about community involvement, teamwork and pride in being Jewish.
