Q & A with Lisa Crary

Meet Lisa, CEO of Sanitas Skin Care.

How many years have you been involved in the spa industry?
I have been directly involved in the spa industry for about 10 years now, but have had indirect associations far longer than that.

What was the path that led you into the spa industry?
I have always had a passion for fashion and beauty. I was working with Sanitas when I still owned my accounting and business management practice, and was offered the opportunity to assume ownership of the company. I had already fallen in love with products and the concept behind the formulations, so I sold my practice and entered the world of skincare!

What is your favorite place in the whole world?
I have traveled the world and lived abroad, but I still have to say that my favorite place in the whole world is Middle Tennessee, right outside of Nashville – It’s truly the place I call home!

If you could have any profession in the world, other than what you do now, what would you be?
I have always considered the possibility of becoming an attorney that advocates for with the underserved (especially children), or I would join the Peace Corps – I still may one day!

What is your go-to spa treatment?
I am a sucker for a good, deep tissue massage – no fluffy massages for me!

 What is your proudest accomplishment?
Well, I have to say that I’m torn on that one. I think there are two. My first would be what we have been able to accomplish with turning our business around. In a few short years we have been able to completely rebrand the line and grow it enormously. My second would be my work with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) which is an organization that advocates for children who have been abused or neglected. I won the Supreme Court Award for my work with them and I am very proud of that.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would definitely take more time to appreciate and enjoy my life.

Two things about yourself we don’t know
I have a passion for exotic cooking that complements my love for gardening. I can’t believe I’m telling you this, but I also have a secret desire to own and ride a Harley Davidson.

What is your motto or concept that you live by?
Definitely the concept of Karma – I truly believe that the energy and work that you put out comes back to you, in both a positive and negative light. Fighting for the underdog and disadvantaged has always been very important to me also. We’re actually launching a new product line next month that will be helping and eventually employing women in need.

What is your most treasured possession?
I have two, actually. I have always been inspired by strong women and my favorite possessions are the wedding rings from both my maternal and paternal grandmothers. Two women who were very influential, strong figures in my life.
