Spa Talk with Lina Ly

Meet Lina Ly, general manager for Decléor Paris.

What has surprised you most about working in the spa industry?

When I started this job, I made a commitment to spend as much time as possible outside the office to meet and get to know our customers, that is, our spa partners and their staff. Having done so, I had the immense pleasure to witness firsthand their passion and expertise. In a world that changes so fast, where launching new products and brands is the norm, Decléor still resonates, and it is incredible how aromatherapy is still relevant today.

Where do you think the industry is heading?

The industry is increasingly shifting to an even more consumer-centric model, focusing on today’s evolving consumer habits, preferences, and needs. For example, e-commerce has provided accessibility to the customer, as she’s never known before, allowing her to shop where she lives and giving her a truly customized experience.

In a digitalized world, a unique customer experience is even more important. This is why I am so excited about our Aroma Blend launch this summer, which is focused on customized body treatments to create bespoke services for every woman. The customer shops online, but is still loyal to the spa experience where she receives a treatment with her favorite esthetician who offers her invaluable expert knowledge.

What’s your favorite skincare ingredient?

I have tremendous respect for Rosemary Essential oil. It’s stimulating for the mind and has incredible skincare benefits such as increasing microcirculation and radiance within the skin. I love that Decléor has a handful of products with this ingredient, including our new Aurabsolu Refreshing Mist.

What positions have you worked in that you feel have been most influential to your career?

I have been fortunate to develop my career in an international setting, working in different continents such as Asia, Europe, and now the U.S. These cultures have shaped my global outlook on business, which in turn, has impacted the way I think about the consumer and her specific needs. My recent position as general manager, Luxe Division, L’Oréal Hong Kong, has strongly influenced my love for luxury brands, product efficacy, and customer experiences.

If you could work in any other profession in the world, what would you be?

I love my current job and all of the fun and challenges it presents, but I have always had a strong yearning to become a doctor. You can heal from anywhere in the world.

How do you like to spend your time away from work?

When the laptop, tablet, and work phones are put away, I love spending time with my family exploring all that New York City, our new home, has to offer. Aside from this, my respite on weekends is on a yoga mat with Decléor Aromessence Neroli in my bag, of course.

What are your three greatest priorities in life?

Finding the right balance amongst the important aspects of life is one of my greatest priorities. Additionally, remaining focused on what is important is critical for me. Finally, I’m committed to building a winning team at work and a happy family at home.
