Davines Group Partners With Plastic Bank

The Davines Group has partnered with Plastic Bank to launch “Rethinking Plastic,” a global campaign to raise awareness about plastic. The campaign aims to prevent 100 tons of plastic from invading the oceans while improving the quality of life of local populations involved in collecting plastic. Plastic Bank works to stop ocean plastic and help collectors in coastal communities by building recycling ecosystems and reprocessing materials for reintroduction into the global supply chain. This allows for local collectors to exchange their plastic waste for premiums which help provide basic family necessities such as groceries, cooking fuel, school tuition, and health insurance. The collected material is remade as social plastic which can be easily reintegrated into products and packaging.

Indonesia, Brazil, and the Philippines have high pollution rates from plastic and high poverty levels due to the lack of waste treatment infrastructure and the dependency on disposable packaging, which means a disproportionate amount of pollution. They all have areas involved with Plastic Bank. “It has become obvious that the only way to accelerate the needed transformation from the current socio-economic extractive model towards a new regenerative paradigm – a transformation that can no longer be postponed – is that of creating multilateral alliances and coalitions working together to reach that objective," says Davide Bollati, chairman of the Davines Group. "Our collaboration with Plastic Bank represents a new step forward in our ongoing path of sustainability and regeneration.”
