Viral TikTok dermatologist Whitney Bowe, M.D. has partnered with La Roche-Posay on a four-part digital docuseries designed to cut through online misinformation surrounding sun safety for teens, tweens, and young adults.
"The Burning Truth: Debunking Myths About the Sun" is helmed by Emmy-winning TV producer Fran Brescia-Coniglio. It stars Bowe alongside her 14-year-old daughter Maclane Auerbach, with appearances from special guests including Dancing with the Stars’ Witney Carson, celebrity chef Eitan Bernath, and skincare influencers Grace May and cosmetic chemist Ramón Pagán.
The mission is clear: engage Gens Alpha and Beta with sharp, fast-paced, fact-driven conversations around SPF myths and sun protection — from viral DIY sunscreen recipes that fail to protect skin, to the persistent misconception that SPF isn't needed on cloudy days.
A board-certified dermatologist and researcher, Bowe became a breakout TikTok figure in 2022 after popularizing “skin cycling,” one of the platform’s rare skincare trends actually endorsed by dermatologists.
"The Burning Truth" docuseries is backed by IMPACT Melanoma, whose research identified melanoma as the second most common cancer among people ages 15 to 29.
Timed to Melanoma & Skin Cancer Awareness Month, the series premiered May 20 and marks the latest chapter in La Roche-Posay’s ongoing public health push around sun safety and skin cancer prevention.
This time, however, the L'Oréal-owned brand has moved beyond the traditional awareness-campaign playbook. In this series, the documentary-style storytelling and creator-led content feels far more aligned with the media habits of Gen Z, Gen Alpha, and younger.
