What's New in Waxing

Hair-removal techniques have been around for many years and have come a long way since the days when tweezers were made from seashells and razors were made from flints to get rid of unwanted hair on the body. However, even with advancements and modern technology, there is still room for growth and improvement when it comes to hair removal. Discover what’s new and trending in waxing today.

Waxing Wisdom

“With clients and spas becoming more conscious of how their hair-removal products are made and their effects on the planet, what’s new is what is being taken out of hair-removal products. Vegan-friendly and cruelty-free products are now very much a consideration.” —Lilliane Caron, founder and sales director, Waxxxpress

“Tattoos and hair removal are a hot topic of conversation. Waxing is a safe hair-removal option when it comes to maintaining the integrity of healed body art. In fact, as waxing is a form of exfoliation, tattoos can look fresher and more vibrant following a waxing treatment.” —Caron

“For a long time, hard wax had the reputation of not being as clean of a wax compared to soft wax, but this just isn’t true. With proper application and removal, hard wax can be just as efficient, if not more, than soft wax.” —Taylor Shipley, brand educator, Starpil

“Focusing more on overall skin health rather than ‘perfection’ has finally taken the forefront.” —Shipley

A Need for Speed

Speed waxing is a technique that continues to grow in popularity in the hair-removal industry. According to Taylor Shipley, brand educator at Starpil, speed waxing is when a hair-removal professional provides a waxing service in half of the time. Speed waxing is beneficial for clients because they can get in and out without the quality of service decreasing. However, wax professionals do not start off as speed waxers. “It is imperative to get the foundations of a quality wax down, and with time, speed comes,” says Shipley.
