We had the chance to speak to Adriana Serrano, spa supervisor at The Spa at AVA Resort Cancun (Mexico), to get an inside look at the new state-of-the-art wellness facility. The spa, which opened in October 2024, is designed to promote overall balance and individual wellbeing. It features a full circuit of hydrotherapy, as well as sauna and steam rooms, 28 single treatment rooms, 24 double treatment rooms, an extensive menu of facials and body treatments, and a spacious recovery lounge with sparkling poolside views. Its state-of-the-art fitness center, FIIT, offers yoga, Pilates, and spin classes; cardio and weight training; group fitness classes; customized personal training sessions; and a full range of top-of-the-line-workout equipment.
Please describe the spa’s design.
When conceptualizing the spa at AVA Resort Cancun, the priority was to create a calming environment where guests could fully relax and immerse themselves in their chosen treatments. The Spa at AVA features natural finishes and materials that evoke the atmosphere of an underground spring.

Please describe each of the treatment rooms.
Our spa features 55 treatment rooms, each thoughtfully designed for facials, massages, and body treatments. Additionally, we have three Deluxe suites specifically designed for couples' rituals. These rituals provide a full-body experience, combining massages and body treatments for the ultimate relaxation. Our signature treatment room, the AVA Signature Suite, is our highlight. This exclusive and personalized space is designed to provide a unique wellness journey, featuring a private sauna, steam room, and a mini pool within the suite.
What makes the spa unique and sets it apart from other spas in the area?
The Spa at AVA reimagines the wellness experiences by combining inspirational treatments, high-quality products, and a tranquil ambience. Our spa integrates traditional and modern therapy practices to ensure an unforgettable experience.

How would you describe your typical clientele?
We have guests fly in from all corners of the world, though our biggest market are travelers from North America.
How are you marketing the spa to your hotel guests?
We actively promote the spa through digital marketing and personalized recommendations from our spa receptionist and desk teams.
How are you marketing the spa to local guests or those not staying at the hotel?
The Spa at AVA is only available to AVA Resort Cancun guests.

Can you tell me a little bit about the creation of the menu?
The menu was designed with our diverse clientele in mind. We focus on offering experiences that promote relaxation, wellbeing, and an instant noticeable glow without compromising the luxury and exclusivity that makes each visit unique.
Did you take any green initiatives when creating the spa/creating the menu/selecting the spa products?
Yes, sustainability is a core part of our philosophy. We prioritize the use of eco-friendly products. Our product lines are selected based on their commitment to natural, organic, and cruelty-free ingredients.
What are most spa-goers looking for when they visit your spa? What treatments do most spa-goers gravitate toward?
Relaxation and stress relief are the top priorities for most of our guests, making massages our most popular treatments. Facials and body therapies are also in high demand, especially those designed to hydrate and rejuvenate the skin.

What treatments are a harder sell? How do you promote them?
Some specialized body treatments or rituals may require more information for guests to fully appreciate and understand their benefits. We promote these through personalized recommendations and informational materials.
What product lines do you carry at the spa and why did you select them?
We carry Natura Bissé, Comfort Zone, Scens, Agave, and Moroccanoil. They were selected for their high-quality ingredients, effectiveness, and alignment with our sustainability values. Each brand complements our treatments, enhancing the overall spa experience.
What sort of retail offerings do you offer?
Our retail selection includes skincare products, aromatherapy oils, and hair products that complement our treatments. We carefully select items that align with our brand values and promote them through therapist recommendations, product displays, and special bundles.

Are you offering any sort of spa cuisine or healthy dining options?
We offer a healthy welcome shot in addition to herbal teas, infused waters, and nutrient-rich snacks. These are designed to enhance the wellness experience and support overall wellbeing.
What do you find your biggest challenge to be, and how do you meet that challenge?
One of our biggest challenges is maintaining consistency in service quality while adapting to evolving wellness trends. We address this by continuously training our staff, staying updated with industry innovations, and listening to guest feedback to refine our offerings.

What plans do you have for the future?
There are plans to expand the menu with new therapies, enhance our wellness programs, and introduce more sustainable initiatives. Additionally, we plan to integrate more personalized experiences for our guests.
