Set on 125 acres of Sonoran Desert terrain at the base of Mummy Mountain with views of Camelback Mountain and Arizona’s famed Four Peaks is the historic JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa (AZ). This iconic resort has long attracted high-profile guests, including Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, and Bette Davis, and it remains a desert hotspot for visitors given its deluxe amenities, heated outdoor pools, garden terraces, desert trails, 36 holes of championship golf, four tennis courts, six pickleball courts, and relaxing spa services in the newly reimagined Spa at Camelback Inn

Following a $25 million transformation by DesignOne Studio and EDG, the new spa offers an enhanced sanctuary of relaxation and rejuvenation. “The Spa at Camelback Inn is truly set apart by its ability to preserve the same warm, welcoming feel guests have always loved while delivering significant, forward-thinking enhancements rooted in wellness, intention, and personalization,” says Shelley Narath, director of spa operations at The Spa at Camelback Inn. “While the atmosphere remains familiar and inviting, the experience itself has evolved into a sanctuary where timeless hospitality meets modern wellness innovation, creating an experience unlike any other in the area.”

In addition to the 20 newly designed treatment rooms, the spa also offers elevated post-treatment care through its signature Stillness Lounge, which is a tranquil and meditative space for peaceful reflection that features MindSync chairs with vibro-acoustic technology. This experience incorporates weighted blankets, eye masks, and noise-canceling headphones to help reduce stress and improve sleep. “These clinically supported experiences help shift the body into a parasympathetic state, reducing anxiety, improving sleep, and extending the benefits of any service well beyond the treatment room,” says Narath.

Guests can also spend time in The Sanctuary, a co-ed relaxed, open area for guests to enjoy the views of Camelback Mountain through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and The Wellness Circuit, which offers a carefully curated contrast therapy journey. It includes a Himalayan salt stone sauna, cold experiences, aromatherapy steam, and infrared light therapy on limestone loungers—guiding guests through elemental healing that supports circulation, detoxification, muscle recovery, and nervous system regulation.

What’s more, the spa also offers a plethora of outdoor amenities, such as the Wellness Waters with panoramic views of the Sonoran Desert, and several hydrotherapy options—Flow (main pool), Still (salt pool), and Chill (cold plunge). “This blend of ancient bathing traditions with modern wellness science, positions the spa as a destination for restorative experiences, not just relaxation,” says Narath.

The services, amenities, and atmosphere contribute to The Spa at Camelback Inn’s diverse, yet like-minded, clientele who are seeking wellness, restoration, and meaningful self-care. According to Narath, its guests include resort visitors from across the country and abroad, local residents from the greater Scottsdale and Phoenix area, and a loyal community of spa-goers who have sought out the spa for years and continue to return annually—or more often—as part of their wellness ritual.

The careful creation of the spa’s menu of services was rooted in a deep respect for both place and purpose, according to Narath. “Following our thoughtful renovation, we re-envisioned the menu as an extension of our wellness philosophy, ensuring that every offering supports whole-person wellbeing— body, mind, and spirit—while honoring Camelback Inn’s long-standing wellness legacy,” she says. The Sonoran Desert location also plays a defining role in shaping many of the offerings, drawing inspiration from the indigenous elements, botanicals, and natural rhythms of the desert to create treatments that reflect the land’s grounding, cleansing, and restorative qualities. “Ultimately, our menu is a reflection of our belief that wellness should be intentional, immersive, and deeply connected to its surroundings,” says Narath.

The spa is guided by the ariVéa philosophy, which blends Arizona’s powerful desert landscape with five foundational wellness truths: the power of nature, the preciousness of water, the importance of personalization, the impact of intention, and the significance of stillness. Rather than presenting a traditional list of services, the menu is organized around Pathways to Wellness, which guide guests toward experiences aligned with their personal intentions, such as Detox, Soothe, Harmonize, or Restore.

Guests interested in the Detox experience can choose from signature offerings like the Juniper Sage Grounding Massage (starting at $270, 60 minutes), as well as a fresh-pressed green juice and a studio-to-trail movement class designed to purify and reset the body. The Soothe experience focuses on deep rest and nervous-system recovery. Signature treatments include the Sonoran Rose Facial (starting at $300, 60 minutes). Chamomile and valerian root tea, guided breathwork, and stillness meditation further support deep relaxation. Harmonize aligns and balances the body and includes the Return to Balance Massage (starting at $270, 60 minutes), as well as a matcha or green tea elixir, yoga, and sound baths designed to improve natural rhythm and ow. Restore refreshes and invigorates and includes the signature Cellular Renewal Facial (starting at $280, 60 minutes). Wellness activities, including gentle stretching and guided meditation, are intended to help sustain the sense of renewal and glow. “Each treatment is designed as part of a broader wellness journey rather than a standalone service,” says Narath. “From the techniques and pacing to the chosen botanicals, aromas, and finishing rituals, every detail is purposefully curated to deliver a specific outcome— whether grounding, renewal, deep rest, or revitalization. This approach allows guests to intuitively select experiences that resonate with how they want to feel, while still benefiting from advanced techniques and high-performance results.”

While massage therapy, particularly treatments that support muscle recovery, grounding, and nervous system calming, remains the most-requested modality, body treatments tend to be the more challenging offerings to introduce to guests. According to Narath, this is because many spa-goers arrive with a clear preference for massage services and are less familiar with what a modern, thoughtfully designed body ritual can truly deliver. “That said, once a guest takes the leap and experiences one of our body treatments, the response is almost always transformative,” she says. “We frequently hear guests say they can’t believe they waited so long to try it. These rituals engage the body, senses, and nervous system in a way that’s deeply immersive, often delivering benefits that extend well beyond relaxation, from enhanced circulation and detoxification to profound grounding and renewal.”

Beyond spa treatments, guests can also enjoy sound baths, yoga, mindfulness workshops, and guided meditations in the Wellness Studio and access to the 24-hour state of-the-art fitness center featuring Technogym equipment and Peloton bikes. “While many spas focus on luxury alone, Camelback Inn’s spa balances luxury with meaning,” says Narath. “Guests feel immediately at ease in familiar, comforting surroundings, yet discover a profoundly elevated experience that engages the senses, calms the nervous system, and supports long-term wellbeing.”

Additional amenities at The Spa at Camelback Inn include a nail salon and a curated retail space where guests can find results-driven skincare from Babor, Epicutis, Tara Spa Therapy, and 111Skin, as well as bodycare and ritual items used during services; intentional wellness accessories, such as recovery tools and mindfulness inspired items; and select artisanal and locally inspired pieces that reflect the spirit of the Sonoran Desert.

Additionally, the new Ora Café in the wellness space boasts a menu of clean, vibrant dishes that feature ingredients grown on property. Guests can enjoy nourishing bowls, fresh salads, wellness-focused small plates, and protein-forward entrées. “Beyond treatments, the spa’s uniqueness lies in how wellness is woven into every touchpoint—from the retail boutique featuring local artisans, to the wellness studio offering yoga, meditation, sound therapy, and purposeful movement, to the Ora Café, where intelligent nutrition completes the wellness journey,” says Narath. “The spa is not a place you simply visit; it’s an environment designed to influence how you feel long after you leave.”
