Sea Island (GA) recently introduced two new barbershops, one at The Spa at Sea Island and one at the Men’s Locker Room at The Lodge at Sea Island. Inspired by a recently-uncovered 1936 photograph, the new barbershops offer services including hot towel shaves, beard grooming, exfoliation, facials and more. The Barbershop at The Spa at Sea Island offers a tranquil experience for the modern man, as guests and members have access to spa amenities, such as the water features and the spa atrium before or after their appointments. Upon arrival, guests are transported to the 1930s in the barbershop space that was designed to replicate the 1936 photo, including sourcing and reupholstering a traditional barber chair to match the photo. New services include hot towel shaves and beard grooming, along with existing services such as gentleman’s cuts, collar clean ups and “Little Gent’s Cuts” for young guests. “The history of barbering is one of the oldest professions in human history,” says Cecilia Hercik, director of spa and wellness at The Spa at Sea Island. “As simple traditions define Sea Island, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to bring the time-honored tradition back to the property. While maintaining a sense nostalgia, technology has also given the barbers the freedom to experiment and curate unforgettable experiences for their clientele.”
At The Barbershop at the Men’s Locker Room at The Lodge guests and members are invited to spend time in the chair at their leisure. Whether visiting the quintessential barber space after a day out on the property’s three championship golf courses or before the nightly bagpiper performs as the sun sets on Sea Island, guests are sure to leave feeling refreshed. During their visit, guests can enjoy craft cocktails and hand rolled cigars while sharing stories with friends, just as Sea Island visitors did in the 1930s. “We are thrilled to bring this time-honored tradition to the Men’s Locker Room at The Lodge,” says Blair Webb, general manager of The Lodge at Sea Island. “The Men’s Locker Room has always been a popular gathering space for guests and members, from whom we’ve received inquiries for barber services over the years. We are delighted to offer grooming services in a comfortable and inviting space that evokes a sense of nostalgia. We hope guests feel transported to a simpler time as they gravitate toward the chair.” Services include men’s cuts, shears-only cuts, hot towel shaves, line ups, beard trims, men’s facials, men’s full tune-ups and full treatments.
