The Serenity Zone at Kohler Waters Spa at Lodge Kohler

Known for its cutting-edge kitchen and bath products, state-of-the-art water therapies, and resort destinations, Kohler Co. recently debuted Lodge Kohler (Green Bay, WI) just steps away from Lambeau Field, home field to the Green Bay Packers. Set in Titletown, a transformational development for Packers fans, the new property joins locations in Kohler, WI; St. Andrews, Scotland; and Burr Ridge, IL. Lodge Kohler features 134 guest rooms, 10 suites, unparalleled views of Lambeau Field, Taverne in the Sky panoramic bar and restaurant, and a full-service spa where relaxation is the ultimate goal. “Kohler Waters Spa at Lodge Kohler is designed around the healing powers of water,” says director of spas Garrett Mersberger. “No matter where you are in the spa, you will experience water through one of your five senses.”

Soothing water treatments

In addition to sporting one of only four Kohler Custom Vichy Showers in the world, the spa also features a leading-edge Hydromassage Experience Pool, which was conceived by Herbert V. Kohler, executive chairman of Kohler Co. “There is nothing like it in the Midwest,” says Mersberger. The pool is part of the Thermal Suite, a highlight of the inviting spa. It also includes a steam room, sauna, and cool plunge pool. In conceptualizing the spa, Kohler and Tim Andreas, director of architecture and interior design for Kohler Co., had a shared vision of creating a welcoming lodge and high-end gathering place for Packers fans and travelers alike, where the beauty of the Wisconsin outdoors was reflected in the design.

Tranquil relaxation areas

“We were really focused on creating a connection to the garden,” says Andreas. “We used a photo of a natural pond for inspiration and selected weathered wood-look plank tiles and a combination of celadon-green glazed-brick tiles and iridescent glass mosaic tiles to create an indoor-outdoor feel and bring in the colors of flowers, even when it might be the dead of winter.” One of his favorite elements is the curtain in the lounge. “The pattern has an abstract quality that hints at the bark of birch trees,” says Andreas. “When the evening sun streams in, it creates a nice warm woodland feel.”

Not surprisingly, most spa-goers are interested in sampling the hydrotherapy services and the spa’s thermal suite. “When creating the new menu, we wanted to have a good balance of the Kohler Waters Spa Signature Treatments, an additional focus on hydrotherapy services, and seasonal services specific to the Green Bay marketplace, like the Green & Gold Manicure, perfect for game days,” says Mersberger.

The spa relies on Phytoceane, Skin Authority, and SpaRitual. It also offers a signature line of products featuring its signature scents: holly-hock and evergreen. Although massage is the spa’s go-to service, its Lavender Rain Signature Treatment ($111, 50 minutes), which involves the Vichy shower experience, is one of the spa’s most popular. According to Mersberger, it’s ideal for cold, snowy days in Green Bay.

An inviting thermal suite makes the new spa a restful retreat.

With 30 employees on staff, the spa can accommodate about 100 services at full capacity. However, a typical day involves approximately 40 treatments. One of the greatest challenges Mersberger and his team faces is staffing. “Growing our hair services has been more difficult than we imagined, but not due to demand,” he says. “The struggle is finding staff in a market where the unemployment rate is at an all-time low. This is a growing struggle within the entire industry—staffing.” In fact, he notes that it’s really the only thing holding them back in Green Bay. As for the future, Mersberger hopes to open more Kohler Waters Spas across the globe. If the company’s most recent addition is any indication, Kohler Co. is going long and playing to win.
