Post Hair Removal Treatments

Prevent – Brighten – Protect

To many, the daily habit of shaving is a breeze! Hot water, a good razor, some quality products and its 1 – 2 – 3 – Boom, You’re Done! Those are the lucky folks who have fine, non-course hair. The other side of that coin is very different.

Shaving, waxing, or sugaring can be an experience that can cause anxiety. Men and women with coarse facial and body hair view hair removal with much concern, especially if they also have sensitive skin. They live with the on going issue of dealing with ingrown hairs.

Ingrown Hairs

Ingrown hairs are known as a PFB or Pseudo Folliculitis Barbae, a condition where screw-shaped hair growth pattern winds itself like a screw into the skin. This generally looks like a small hard pimple and is painful. They can appear anywhere on the body. The most common area for men with coarse hair is their face and neck from shaving. Women with coarse hair will experience them on their legs, underarms and bikini areas. However, men who shave their body can get ingrown hairs on their body as well.

Dark Spots

Ingrown hairs can be painful, and unsightly, often times causing anxiety and embarrassment. Men and women of darker skin tones also suffer a double whammy. The hard pimple looking ingrown hair is very traumatic to the skin, which can cause a dark spot on darker skin tones. These dark spots can take months to go away and should be treated with products that address hyperpigmentation.

Accelerated Cellular Turnover

Shaving, waxing and sugaring are harsh exfoliating treatments. They force new, fresh skin cells to the surface, exposing them to harsh environmental factors.  These new skin cells are now being barraged with sun exposure, pollution, dirt and debris.  All of which can contribute to pre mature aging.

As skincare professionals it is vital that you use and recommend post treatment products that will prevent, brighten and protect your client’s vulnerable skin after harsh waxing or sugaring.  It’s also very common to have waxing clients who also shave at home.  Offering them an option for home care to use after shaving just makes good sense.

There are many products on the market that can help prevent ingrown hairs, having one in your treatment room to apply directly after waxing is an exceptional way to help your clients.  You can also recommend a brightening product to your clients who suffer from dark spots as a result of ingrown hairs.  Most skincare lines offer brightening products and some even specialize in them.  Finally, as with any strong exfoliating treatment, it’s standard to offer a high quality antioxidant to help the skin fight off any free radicals from environmental factors.

If you’d like to get all three of these products in one easy to use roll-on  -there is a new product coming to market this winter – PFB Vanish ULTRA!   An all in one -  triple treatment product that is ideal for the face, nape of the neck, chest, and legs, under arms and back.
