3 Top Summer Hair Trends

Mod Bixie

Jorge Perez (@jorgedoeshair), Sam Villa ambassador and owner of Hair Lab Studio 407 in Puerto Rico, shares how to section for this hybrid cut, a blend of the pixie and modern bob.

Nape: To remove unwanted bulk at the nape, elevate sections 45 degrees and point cut to create roundness.

Sides: Take diagonal back sections on the sides with the fine teeth of a comb for more tension. Match to guidelines at back and point cut away from the body to blend and shape.

Top: Create a top center section, elevate 90 degrees from the base of the head, and match to the back guide. Moving outward and from the bottom up, slide the shears a bit to point cut the section and create softness.

Sleek Buns

“When the temps are high, we tend to want hair off our neck, so we will see a lot of elevated, personalized glossy buns.” —Cynthia Alvarez (@cynthiaglam), curl specialist and celebrity stylist, Biolage

1. Prep hair with a hydrating hair mask to prevent frizz, then apply a leave-in cream to seal in moisture and prevent fly-aways.

2. Blow-dry hair using a boar bristle brush, making sure to point the blow-dryer toward the ends to further ensure a smooth blowout.

3. Gather hair into a ponytail just above the occipital bone using a hair bungee.

4. Apply a couple of drops of oil into your palm and smooth over hair for extra shine.

5. Coat the ponytail with a bit of Biolage Gelée or pomade and wrap into a bun, leaving a few inches out, and pin into place.

6. To spike the ends, use a freezing hairspray and shape hair with your fingers as it dries.
