Wellness industry veteran Steve Kass, well known as the founder and CEO of American Leisure, has died after a battle with cancer.
Kass founded American Leisure in over 50 years ago in 1967. An internationally acclaimed leader in the spa, wellness, and fitness sectors, American Leisure was recognized as a premier consultant, design, and operations company for wellness institutions worldwide; the company operated more than 60 facilities across the globe. In early 2015, Kass sold American Leisure to First Service before opening Steve Kass Consulting.
Steve Kass Consulting specialized in conceptualizing and advising on the design of wellness, spa, fitness, and lifestyle facilities. In 2017, First Service merged American Leisure with Abigail Michaels Concierge to form a new business called LivUnLtd, which offers customized service packages offering total property management of luxury properties across the globe.
Kass served on the board of directors of the NY Spa Association and received the Leisure and Recreation Leadership Award from Niagra University’s College of Hospitality and Tourism Industry. A highly motivated speaker, Kass could be found frequently lecturing and holding seminars at leading industry trade shows, including the Cornell University Hospitality Management program.
According to his website, Kass was a recognized global leader, innovator, and expert consultant, known for offering advice on a wide range of critical investment and design matters which have been proven to contribute to the success and sustainability of a project. He is known for his evaluation and creation of facilities, as well as the development of a formula which enabled his clients with efficient decision-making.
Perhaps his most admired professional quality was his ability to help clients evolve their concepts to create the maximum return on investment, while also being mindful of environmental impact.
