Duke and Duchess of Sussex Give Global Wellness Day the Royal Approval

Global Wellness Day (GWD), which is celebrated around the world and is well-known in the spa industry, received the support of Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex in an Instagram post this week.

The event is an international social project dedicated to living well and helping to get away from stresses, bad habits, and to help find peace. The founder of GWD, Belgin Aksoy, cancer survivor and a wellness activist, convinced private companies, multi-national hotel corporations and even governments to support Global Wellness Day, without a dime of profit and with no official sponsors.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on Instagram that they were choosing inspiring accounts to highlight for the greater good of the world. On August 5, the official Instagram account shared that Global Wellness day was one of the 15 projects selected by the couple. The caption read, “thank you for being part of this collective conversation with us; we hope everyone has enjoyed discovering many of these accounts and engaging with each other on how we can all be Forces for Change.”

In response to this royal feature, Aksoy said, “As a Global Wellness Day Family, consisting of GWD Ambassadors and key supporters, we are beyond honored and thankful that all our endless efforts, working day and night towards the common dream of ‘living well’ around the world has been crowned by the British Royal Family. We look up to TRH The Duke and Duchess of Sussex for using their platform to showcase people and causes that work for the things that matter.”

This isn’t the first time GWD has received celebrity approval. Oprah Winfrey, Mehmet Oz, MD, of The Dr. Oz show, and many other Hollywood stars, authors, athletes, and musicians have recognized the event.

Global Wellness Day received support from several official governments around the world and has been celebrated simultaneously in over 150 countries at more than 7000 different locations. Next year, GWD will take place on June 13.  For more information on the event, check out the website here
