The Benefits of Body Masks

Masks may most commonly be used for the face, but it is important to remind clients that other regions of the body can benefit from masks, too. “Just as there are a variety of face masks available for spa-goers, masks for the skin on the body are becoming popular as well,” says Elyse Blakey, lead corporate educator at Image Skincare. “These masks can provide hydration, exfoliation, and firming benefits, dependent on their ingredients.” For example, Kristen Parks, business development manager of Professional Channel, recommends lip, eye, and hand masks for instant self-care and added moisture to those specific areas. “Lip gels and eye gels are a fast and easy option to quickly boost hydration or brighten, which makes them perfect for pre-makeup application as well to prep the skin,” says Parks. “With frequent handwashing and hand sanitizer use increasing, the use of a hand mask is a perfect solution that can be done anywhere.” However, in other situations, specialized masks may not be necessary. “Just about any mask you use on your face can be used on the body, including deep-cleaning mud masks for the back and buttocks area, moisturizing masks for the delicate neck and décolleté, and seaweed masks that can be applied everywhere on the body to help reduce the appearance of cellulite on the skin,” says Lydia Sarfati, CEO and founder of Repêchage. “A cooling alginate mask is also a fantastic treatment for the bikini area to reduce redness and irritation after waxing.”
