The Spa at Four Seasons, New York City

The long-awaited Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown has much to endear it to visiting guests, including a vibrant neighborhood between Tribeca and the Financial District. Just one block from One World Trade Center, this new addition is set in one of New York City’s tallest residential towers. The first 24 floors, however, are home to the Four Seasons, which comes complete with stellar dining options, such as Cut by Wolfgang Puck, and The Spa at Four Seasons. Although available initially to just guests of the hotel, the spa recently opened its doors to the public. The seven-treatment-room retreat entices guests with its couple’s spa suite, a nail room, a eucalyptus steam room, and an outdoor terrace as well as a 24-hour fitness center and a 75-foot indoor lap pool. “The spa offers an unparalleled level of luxury and pampering in a wonderful new location in downtown Manhattan,” says spa director Tara Cruz.

There, guests can experience treatments from two luxury European brands, the Swiss-based Dr. Burgener line and the Hungarian-based Omorovicza line. “We have partnered with the best European brands to offer our guests and clients the most exclusive and bespoke experiences tailor made to their skin type,” says Cruz. “Much like the colorful city in which we reside, we unite influential cultures and remedies from around the world to create a haven of beauty and wellness. We look forward to welcoming our hotel guests and local residents for the ultimate pampering experience.”

According to Cruz, the partnership with Pauline Burgener, founder of the eponymous line, was the result of a search to find a natural yet luxurious and results-driven line. “Dr. Burgener is exclusive to us here in the States, though we have successful partnerships with her at other Four Seasons properties around the world,” says Cruz. “We love her philosophy of nature meets science.” Also appealing is the fact that the line is environmentally sustainable and cruelty-free. And if that wasn’t enough, Burgener also created an organization that supports women’s empowerment in India. “Such an amazing line and fabulous vision, it seemed natural to grow together,” says Cruz. Spa-goers can reap the benefits of a variety of facials, such as Luxury Green Caviar ($340, 80 minutes), which incorporates green caviar from Okinawa, Japan, and gold to repair and refresh the skin; Collagen Firming ($340, 80 minutes), which stimulates the skin from the inside out with the VitaSkin Ultrasound to produce more collagen and improve cellular function; and Intense Glow ($340, 80 minutes), which relies on a specialized sequence of massage techniques and a glycolic acid treatment.

The spa also offers three Omorovicza facials: Blue Diamond ($220, 50 minutes; $300, 80 minutes), a firming and brightening treatment; Gold Hydralifting ($220, 50 minutes; $300, 80 minutes), a repairing and hydrating service; and Pore Refining ($220, 50 minutes; $300, 80 minutes) a deep-cleansing and detoxifying treatment. “We hope to show our guests that all of their skincare needs are achievable,” says Cruz.

Spa-goers can also treat their bodies to Omorovicza’s Hungarian moor mud with the Purifying Mud ($395, 1 hour 40 minutes) ritual, which involves a detoxifying sea-salt exfoliation, a deep-cleansing mud wrap, and a soothing hot-stone massage. A host of other Eastern-influenced massages are also on tap. “We are mindful of the changes the skin and body endure throughout the seasons, therefore our menu will continuously evolve to reflect that,” says Cruz.

With approximately 30 employees devoted to delivering one-of-a-kind experiences, the spa is poised to breathe fresh life into the downtown spa scene. Looking ahead, Cruz is interested in creating wellness-lifestyle offerings beyond health and beauty. “We want to offer a lifestyle and state of inner peace that uplifts our guests’ spirits and inspires greatness,” she says. In fact, her goal is to make the spa the skincare authority in New York City. With a sophisticated clientele that is well versed in heath and wellness, Cruz and her team are focused on offering classic yet innovative offerings, luxurious natural products, and results-driven technology. Urban Wellness Retreats and Beauty Ritual packages are just some of the options planned for the future. Says Cruz, “We are creating experiences that promote harmony and balance from the inside out.”
