When Tammy Pahel, former spa director of Âme Spa & Wellness Collective at Turnberry Isle Miami, was in the midst of planning the spa’s opening, she knew she wanted to involve a group of experts. According to her, the theme of the spa is about collaboration, hence the use of the word collective in the name.
The spa is focused on bringing together experts in the fields of functional medicine, nutrition, cosmetic surgery, and more. In fact, one of the spa’s most high-profile collaborations came as a result of Pahel Googling “Top 100 Wellness Experts in the U.S.” Celebrity chef and local restaurateur Matthew Kenney was on the list. Seizing the opportunity to capitalize on local awareness of Kenney’s brand, Pahel reached out and found him receptive to the idea of leading a number of retreats.
“The most successful collaboration by far has been our work with Sammy Gharieni to create a living showroom of his products in our spa,” says Pahel. “When I heard he was thinking of renting out warehouse space in Miami for his first North American showroom, I asked him why not use our new spa so his clients could truly experience the equipment in action in a real live spa setting.” The collaboration has proven a win-win for both the spa and equipment company. While Pahel is now consulting on a new spa initiative at Salamander Resorts, she remains focused on forging other successful collaborations there.
