Earlier this month, the winners of the 2017 Sustainable Beauty Awards were announced at a dedicated awards reception in Paris. Organized by Ecovia Intelligence (formerly known as Organic Monitor), the awards recognize organizations who are pushing the boundaries of sustainability within the beauty industry.
U.S.-based beauty brand Aveda was the winner of the Sustainability Leadership award thanks to its wide range of sustainability initiatives, including natural ingredient sourcing, green energy usage, sustainable packaging, waste management practices, and corporate philanthropy initiatives. The runner up for the award was Taiwan’s Hair O’ Right, a carbon neutral company with a green manufacturing facility, sustainable packaging, natural ingredients, and more.
The awards received over 100 entries, and just one winner and one runner up were selected for each category. The jury comprised executives from an ingredient firm, a natural food retailer, a formulation company, a natural cosmetics association, a media agency, and a research firm.

- Runner Up: Trilogy Natural Products (New Zealand)
Sustainable Packaging:
- Winner: Sulapac (Finland)
- Runner Up: Hair O’ Right (Taiwan)
Sustainable Ingredient:
- Winner: Neal’s Yard Remedies (UK)
- Runner Up: H&H Group Co. (Taiwan)
Sustainable Pioneer:
- Winner: AAK (Sweden)
- Runner Up: Neal’s Yard Remedies (UK)
