According to a recent study done by Amalgam, a new online algorithm from Kline that rates beauty products based on their popularity in the beauty industry, suncare products produced by skincare lines are some of the most popular and effective on the market today.
EltaMD offers two products for skin protection against the sun with its UV Daily Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 and UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46, which hold the number two and three spots on the top 100 sunscreen items in Kline’s March 2018 report. Suncare product brands like Colorescience, Dermalogica, Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare, Murad, and SkinCeuticals, including SkinCeuticals' Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 and Dermalogica's Solar Defense Booster SPF 50, rank amongst the top 100 as well. Many of the listed products have improved their rankings in the suncare market compared to previous months. EltaMD’s UV Daily Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 has remained in the number two position for its third consecutive month.
Kline collects data from leading retailer websites using an algorithm that rates beauty products off of their rankings in best-selling product listings, customer ratings, prevalence, and duration on the charts. In 2017, the fastest growing sales and most dynamic products in the U.S. were sunscreens and SPF-based suncare products. Take-home suncare products grew by 7.7 percent in 2017, according to Kline’s annual U.S. Professional Skin Care Market report. The growth is mainly driven by the need for sun protection as marketers, physicians, and aestheticians are stressing the daily use of SPF, which has lead to the creation of many new suncare products. The launches of new products have helped the growth of this number significantly, with new suncare introductions from brands including Alastin, Epionce, HydroPeptide, Image Skincare, Murad, and Senté.
