Dive Deep: A Conversation About Himalayan Salt With Saltability

Capitalizing on the healing benefits of salt therapy, Saltability was founded by Ann Brown in 2014 with the idea of keeping products and services chemical free and eco-friendly. Offering specialized Himalayan salt stone products and treatments, the company works with a number of spas, including The Spa at Cliff House (Cape Neddick, ME), The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Boston, and Spa Ojai at Ojai Valley Inn and Spa (CA). At The Spa at Cliff House, Saltability’s heated salt stones are used as part of its Seasonal Series. “We also use their salt for apothecary-type treatments,” says spa director Dawn Page. “The whole team believes so strongly in the benefits of Himalayan salt.”

What are some of the unique ways in which you collaborate with various spas? “Each spa has its own treatment protocol and uses the hand-carved 100 percent natural Himalayan salt massage stones to do their unique treatments. At Spa Ojai, spa director Kate Morrison and her team give out two stones utilized on the client during the treatment with a take-home card of how to use the stones at home, which I think is brilliant.”—Ann Brown, founder, Saltability

Why has the partnership been so effective?

“It is effective because of the authenticity of the brand, and therapists and guests love the treatments. There is constant support with training, and they always have something new and innovative. Their values and principles as well as their involvement with the community and charity organizations is remarkable. They are passionate about delivering wellness and giving back to the community.”—Virginia Lara, spa director, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Boston

What are some of the benefits of working with an indie brand, such as Saltability? “The great thing about working with Ann Brown and Saltability is their creativity in developing new treatments and impeccable service that enables them to be a real partner in success and not just a taker of orders.”—Dawn Page, spa director, The Spa at Cliff House
