Mole Makes the Menu at Mexico's Se Spas

While Mexican food is always a menu favorite, it’s also turning up on the treatment menu at Se Spa at Grand Velas Resorts (Mexico), which recently debuted a number of mole-inspired offerings.

At Grand Velas Los Cabos, the spa introduced the Mole Experience ($236, 80 minutes), which begins with a body exfoliation using ingredients traditionally used in mole recipes, such as peanuts, almonds, and sesame seeds. A mask of mole and cocoa is applied to the body and the hair is treated to a softening treatment. The Mole Mexicano Massage ($280, 80 minutes) at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit involves an exfoliating massage and a facial using a variety of traditional ingredients, including various chiles. Spa-goers are invited to create their own scrub with a metate, also known as a mealing stone. The Grand Velas Riviera Maya also added a Mero-Mole scrub, incorporating dehydrated pasilla chile, toasted sesame seeds, peeled almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, chocolate, and more, to its Mani and Pedi ($117).

"At Velas Resorts, we make a serious commitment to ongoing innovation with unique experiences in everything from food and beverage and our spa to family bonding activities and soft adventure,” says Silvia Velasco, spa director of Se Spa at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit. “Wherever possible, these are inspired by Mexican history, culture, and traditions, which impart a rich sense of place.”
