TallGrass Spa and Salon Ships More Than 200 Care Packages to Soldiers

With the holidays right around the corner, TallGrass Salon and Spa (Evergreen, CO) sponsored the Soldier Box Project, a care package campaign for soldiers in the Middle East. The spa’s staff and community volunteers helped gather 256 care packages, upping the spa's care package total to almost 1,400 packages throughout TallGrass’s nine years of donations.

Each Soldier Box provides for 10 service members, and for the past nine years, TallGrass Spa and Salon has sent packages twice per year. The organization sends one shipment during the holidays and another between Mother’s and Father’s Day. This November, TallGrass reached its highest amount shipments to date due to the support of other local businesses and individuals. The director of TallGrass Spa, Melissa Rackliff, noticed the community’s involvement and remarked that is was “absolutely astonishing.”

On the grounds of Evergreen’s The Wild Game Entertainment Experience, the community gathered on an early November morning to fashion garments of red, white, and blue. The care packages included handmade drawstring bags packed with personal care items from the Rotary Club of Evergreen; thank-you-letters and drawings from Evergreen’s King-Murphy Elementary students; hats, pashmina and hand-knitted scarves; luxury spa supplies; Leatherman knives; commuter coffee mugs; and cash contributions from various service clubs and businesses.

“For all of us to come together and reach across the ocean to make an impact on the lives of our soldiers especially now, sandwiched between Election Day and Veterans Day, brings to mind how much gratitude we need to have for the freedoms we share every day,” Rackliff says. “Nothing can replace that.”
